Contemporary Dance and Partnering with Jack Strömberg at USC Studios

Two full days of contemporary with choreographer Jack Strömberg, 19 and 20 December. Day 1 is about improvisation and imagery, day 2 about partnering. 1,100 SEK for both days or 700 SEK for one day. Ages 16 and up.

Two full days of contemporary at USC Studios

On Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December, choreographer Jack Strömberg leads a contemporary dance workshop. We work with improvisation, imagery, choreography and partnering. We challenge habitual movement patterns and find new ways to move, alone and together.

Day 1, Saturday 19 December: Improvisation, Imagery & Movement Exploration

The first day is about improvisation. We try different imagery strategies and see how they shape our movement language. We work with quality and dynamics through floorwork, jumps, turns and standing sequences. Then we build on material you already know and add new material that grows during the day.

Day 2, Sunday 20 December: Partnering, Play & Collective Creation

The second day is about partnering. We start with playful exercises and games. We practise leading and following, sharing weight and listening to each other. Then we move on to lifts and partnering techniques, in pairs and in groups. The focus is on trust, communication and presence.

We close the weekend with a longer improvisation. Here we bring together the material and tools from both days.

Schedule, the same both days

  • 9.30 to 10.00: check-in, the studio opens
  • 10.00 to 13.00: workshop
  • 13.00 to 14.00: lunch
  • 14.00 to 17.00: workshop
  • The studio stays open until 17.30

Level and age

Open level. You get the most out of it if you have danced contemporary or modern before. The workshop is for ages 16 and up.

We dance barefoot on a smooth floor. Bring clothes to move in, water and something to eat for lunch. Teaching is in both Swedish and English.

About Jack Strömberg

Jack Strömberg is a Swedish dance artist and choreographer. He trained at SEAD in Salzburg and has a background in music, theatre and contemporary circus. He works with contemporary choreography and collective movement creation. He is currently active internationally, among others with Divadlo Štúdio Tanca in Slovakia.
