All beginner courses in the schedule

How it works, step by step

  1. Choose and book

Step 1: Choose a style and level

All our styles are offered at beginner level. If you are completely new, pick a class marked Beginner or Open level.

    Open level:
All levels welcome. No experience required
    Beginner:
Brand new to the style. Starts from the basics

Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced: for people who already dance the style.

    • Kids ages 9 to 12. From 13 you can also join the youth and adult courses. Some courses are for 20+, 25+ and 30+.
    • Not sure about style or level: answer three questions in the style finder, or email hej@usc.se and we will help you choose.
  2. Step 2: Choose a format: term or drop-in

You can book the whole term or try a single class via drop-in.

    • Term course: 10 weeks with the same teacher and the same group every week. Your spot is held every week.
    • If you are unsure, book the term anyway. Change your mind within 14 days of the booking confirmation and we deduct the classes you attended and refund the rest.
    • You can join mid-term if there is space. The course fee is the same regardless of when you start.
    • Drop-in: a single class from 240 SEK, on the classes marked drop-in in the schedule. Book at least 30 minutes before the start.
    • Class cards: 5 classes for 1,150 SEK or 10 for 2,300 SEK. Valid on the drop-in classes for twelve months, one class per punch.
  3. Step 3: Book

You book on our booking page. Click a class in the schedule and you go straight there.

    • Bookings are made with your account on the booking page. If you do not have an account, request a login key on the login page. It arrives by email (check your spam folder). If you already have an account you are logged in directly.
    • You get a booking confirmation by email right away. The place is yours, even if you choose to pay later by invoice.
    • If you are under 18, your guardian makes the booking, is listed as the contact person and receives all emails.
    • Book drop-in on the Drop-in page. Booking opens a few days before the class and closes 30 minutes before it starts.
    • Popular classes fill up fast. If a class is full you can join the waiting list and we will let you know when a place opens up.
  4. After you book

    Step 4: Pay

Card, Swish or invoice with 14 days to pay. The wellness benefit covers adult term courses and class cards, through ePassi or with your receipt.

More on this step about Pay
    • Pay by card, Swish or invoice. The invoice arrives by email and is due within 14 days.
    • The wellness benefit covers adult term courses and class cards, through ePassi or with your receipt. With ePassi, choose invoice, pay it in the ePassi app and we'll update your invoice. With the receipt you pay as usual and give the receipt to your employer. Kids' courses and single drop-in classes are not covered.
    • Drop-in is paid after booking, by Swish or card under "Betala dropin".
    • Want to split the payment or buy a gift card? Email hej@usc.se.
    • No confirmation after paying? Check your spam folder first. Otherwise email us with your name and the course.
  5. Step 5: Download Parakey, your key

We have no reception. You open the door with the Parakey app on your phone, and you get the key automatically once you have booked.

More on this step about Download Parakey, your key
    • Download the free Parakey app from the App Store or Google Play.
    • Open the invitation email from Parakey (not from USC Studios) and create your account with the same email address you booked with. Check your spam folder.
    • The key works from 30 minutes before until 30 minutes after every class you are booked on. Keep Bluetooth on.
    • If you booked for your child, the key goes to your phone as the guardian.
    • The key is personal. Do not let others in. Everyone needs their own booking.
    • Door not opening? Check Bluetooth, your email address and the time, and restart the app. If it still does not work, email hej@usc.se.
  6. Step 6: Find us

USC Studios is in Medborgarhuset. From Medborgarplatsen metro station, take the exit towards Folkungagatan and then turn right. We are there, one floor down.

    • Teaching is in Swedish. The instructor switches to English when needed.
    • You are covered by accident insurance during class.
  8. Step 8: During the term

Make up a missed class at a drop-in within a week, if there is space. If you end up at the wrong level, we move you if there is space.

More on this step about During the term
    • Missed a class? Make it up within a week at any of our drop-in classes, subject to availability. Email us and we will help you find one.
    • Wrong level or wrong course? Email us and we will move you to another course if there is space.
    • Ill for a longer period? Email us. With a doctor's note we can make exceptions.
    • We may move a time, day, teacher or studio during the term. If it does not suit you, you can switch course at no cost or get a credit towards the next term. If USC Studios cancels a course, you get your money back.
    • We sometimes photograph and film for marketing and tell you in advance. Email us if you do not want to be included. Short videos of your own are fine if others are not visible. Ask the instructor first.
    • More dancing: on Fridays we usually have social dance nights. Everything coming up is under Events.

What most people ask

Do I need dance experience to start?

No. All USC Studios beginner classes start from zero. We assume no prior experience. The only requirement is that you show up willing to try.

Can I come alone, or should I bring a friend?

Come alone, most people do. After a few weeks you know the whole group. If you still want company, each book your own spot on the same course and time.

Do I need a partner for salsa or bachata?

No, you don't need to bring a partner. We rotate during classes so everyone gets to dance with everyone.

I am shy and uncoordinated. Can I still start?

Yes. The beginner courses start from zero and everyone in the group is new. Nobody is watching you, everyone is watching the instructor. Coordination is not something you have or lack, it is something you train. The first classes feel unfamiliar. After that the basics stick.

Is USC Studios suitable for adults over 40 or 50?

Yes. Adult courses have no upper age limit. Some courses are for 20+, 30+ or 40+, which keeps the groups close in age. Pick a course marked Beginner or Open.

How fast do you learn to dance?

It depends on the style and how often you dance. In salsa and bachata, a ten-week beginner course is usually enough to join a social dance night. Ballet and contemporary build on technique and take longer. What matters is that you come every week. After one term you notice the difference.

Kids and parents

Kids' classes follow the same steps, but you as the parent book, pay and receive the key.

  • Courses for ages 9 to 12. Max 15 children per group. No experience needed.
  • The booking is made in your name as the guardian. Confirmations, invoices and the Parakey key come to you.
  • Soft clothes and barefoot or socks.
  • You open the door with your phone 30 minutes before class. There is a waiting area with seating.
